CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT CONCERT!

Thank you so much to everyone who attended our Star Wars Virtual Concert this evening! The students did a wonderful job recording their performances and we would also like to thank Haskell Middle School and Ross Middle School for joining us on “The Rise of Skywalker.” We’re looking forward to our live, in-person Band & Color Guard Showcase performance on Thursday, June 3rd at 6:30PM in the Gahr High School Stadium! In case you missed the Star Wars concert or you would like to watch it again, this is the direct link to the video:

SAVE THE DATE: AWARDS NIGHT - TUES 6/8 @ 6:30PM 🏅

We are excited to announce that we will be having an in-person “Awards Night” on Tuesday, June 8th at 6:30PM at New Life Church. This will be indoors at reduced capacity, no food, masks on the entire time, and socially distanced. We are also thrilled to have a special keynote speaker for this event - Dr. Gregory Whitmore from California State University, Fullerton. The goal is to provide our students a memorable event to celebrate their outstanding work and achievements despite the circumstances. We’ll also be providing a sense of normalcy - semi-formal attire, videos/slide shows, service pins and varsity letters, wooden engraved plaques, and best of all - the boosters have worked to make this event free of charge for all students and attendees. We look forward to safely celebrating together!

REHEARSAL CHECK-IN PROCEDURE 🌡

Please check in between 12:20-12:45PM and walk all the way up to the table WITH YOUR MASK ON so that we can scan your forehead for your temperature. Then head directly to your rehearsal zone and set up ASAP:

- Winds on dot grid (windowed block)
- Color Guard in the MPR
- Battery outside the portable (under the E-Z UPs)
- Front Ensemble in the Band Room

All students will be outdoors for some amount of time, so it is highly recommended to wear a hat, athletic shoes/clothes, and bring water and sunscreen. Towards the end of rehearsal, we will stop early to get everything put away, and then go to the attendance block for final announcements and dismissal. Just a reminder that no instruments, equipment, or personal items can be left in the band room after rehearsals.

STUDENTS: Just a friendly reminder that even though the majority of the band is coming to in-person rehearsals, we still need to MAX OUT our classes when we’re online. That means logging in early, warming up, being visible ON CAMERA with your instrument/equipment, and participating 100%. The Zoom classes can be a valuable tool so we’re further ahead when we have our in-person rehearsals — which ultimately means our showcase performance will be even better!⠀

UPDATED LA COUNTY GUIDELINES 🎷

The new guidelines from the LA County Department of Public Health now allow woodwinds and brass to remove their face mask to play if they are outdoors and spaced 8 or more feet apart from one another. We have adjusted our outdoor rehearsal block to give the students the option to temporarily pull their face mask down for playing. There is also some great news that the FDA is expected to authorize the Pfizer vaccine for children 12-15 years old. This is all a step in the right direction to help get us back to normal for a regular fall marching season!

Things are shaping up for an awesome Band & Color Guard End-of-Year Showcase! This event will be on Thursday, June 3rd at 6:30PM in the Gahr High School Stadium. Masks will be required and admission is free. Please note that students must be in attendance at in-person 7th period rehearsals in order to take part in the in-person performance. STUDENTS: There are only three full weeks until the showcase! Keep working hard so we can finish the year strong.

2ND SEMESTER DONATION PAST DUE

The 2nd semester donation of $150 was due Friday, February 5th. We need your help with this in order to afford instruction, student awards, and field show registrations for next year. This donation is also critical for us to be able to have in-person rehearsals and summer practices. If you need to work out additional fundraisers or a payment plan, please email Mr. Darren Loney, Director of Bands, at darren.loney@abcusd.us. Thank you.
