Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is an audition-only performing ensemble that focuses on the advanced musician. The Wind Ensemble performs advanced literature and participates in concerts, festivals, and clinics during the school year. Students must have a strong commitment to rehearsal and individual practice time.  Private lessons are strongly recommended.

Auditions/placements are held at the end of the previous school year. Audition materials regularly include etudes, scales, and sight-reading. Past membership in the ensemble does not guarantee a spot the following year.

Membership carries the following responsibilities:

  1. Attendance at all rehearsals, sectionals, clinics, and performances

  2. Preparation of All-State/All-Southern music during Fall Semester

  3. Audition for All-State/All-Southern

  4. Participate in Solo and Ensemble Festival

  5. Performance of concert and festival music

  6. Maintain academic eligibility

  7. Abide by all Gahr Instrumental Music Program handbook policies

Students must be in the Gahr Instrumental Music Program for a minimum of one (1) year to be eligible to audition for the Wind Ensemble. While prior experience in middle school or another high school can certainly be helpful, there is specific training, fundamentals, and rehearsal procedures that are unique for our program and are learned in the first year being in the music program.

All students must enroll in the Marching Band (Course #1720) to participate.
