SCSBOA FESTIVAL AT ROSEMEAD HS THIS THURSDAY 3/21

Great progress this past week Concert Band and Wind Ensemble! Special thanks to Superintendent Dr. Gina Zietlow and Gahr Dean of Students, Luisa Nunes, for attending our ABCUSD Festival performances this past Wednesday. This Thursday 3/21, both bands will be participating in a Southern California Band & Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) festival at Rosemead HS! Each ensemble will be evaluated by a panel of highly-trained adjudicators and receive ratings and commentary. This is our main dissemination of the year and is our most important opportunity for us to share our knowledge with others, as well as receive feedback to become even better musicians.

The festival begins with performing our prepared pieces for three-highly trained professional judges. After we perform in the main performance hall, we move on to sight-reading. The purpose of sight-reading is to assess what our prior knowledge is and how well we can apply our prior knowledge to a piece of music we have never seen or played before. The teacher is not allowed to sing or clap any rhythms or notes for the students. Students are assessed on how well they can play with minimal preparation and are given a rating.

This festival is FREE and open to the public! Family and friends are invited to watch both the performance in the hall, as well as the sight-reading process. Our Concert Band begins at 3:15PM and the Wind Ensemble is at 4:45PM. Please be aware that you need to be in the hall at least 15 minutes ahead of our performance time in order to find a seat. It would mean a lot to our students if you could join us for our festival! Thank you for your support and we hope to see you there.

The JV Guard will be performing at the WGASC El Toro show this Saturday, March 23rd! Call time is 8:45AM at Gahr. We will be rehearsing from 9:00-11:30AM, followed by lunch and loading, and then carpooling to El Toro High School at approximately 1:00PM. Gahr JV performs at 4:58PM.

WGASC SHOW HOST COMMITTEE MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY AT 6:30PM

3RD DRUMLINE & GUARD DONATION PAST DUE

The 3rd donation for Indoor Percussion was due Wednesday 3/6 and the 3rd donation for Winter Guard was due Thursday 3/7. This is critical so we are able to pay for instructors, costumes, and production costs. STUDENTS MUST BE CAUGHT UP WITH OUTSTANDING DONATIONS TO RECEIVE THEIR COSTUME. The ABCUSD Jazz Showcase is Wednesday, March 27th in the Artesia High School Gym starting at 5:30PM! Hear all of the middle school and high school jazz bands in the ABC Unified School District. Gahr’s Jazz B will be performing at 7:30PM and Jazz A performs at 7:45PM. This showcase is FREE and open to the public.

PACIFIC SYMPHONY YOUTH ORCHESTRA CONCERT!

Our own Gabriel Dominguez will be performing with the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra tomorrow, Monday, March 18th at 7:00PM at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall! The program is entitled, “Dance Noir,” and includes the Roman Carnival Overture by Berlioz, the Symphony Dances of Rachmaninoff.
