AWARDS BANQUET THIS SUNDAY!

AWARDS BANQUET THIS SATURDAY @ 3PM!

Please join us this Saturday at 3:00PM for our end-of-year *virtual* Awards Banquet! We will be sending out a link the day before where you will be able to watch live via YouTube. We will be announcing our 2020-21 student leadership, booster board, student-voted awards, and nationally recognized awards. Help us celebrate all the hard work and dedication of all our students, especially our graduating seniors!

Please make sure you have completed the following checklist.

  1. STUDENT-VOTED AWARDS - This is the last chance to vote for awards in the ensembles you participated in this year. We are still missing a handful of student votes.

  2. SENIOR STOLES & PHOTOS - If you are a senior and have not filed out this form, please do this now so you can be included in the banquet. Please note that due to COVID-19, the stoles and embroidery have been delayed.

  3. SENIOR ROAST - Please take a minute and email funny senior stories/photos/videos to Mr. Loney!
    darren.loney@abcusd.us.

  4. DONATE - As you probably know, normally during this time we would be running huge program fundraisers to make our annual budget. Unfortunately, we are also still in need of funds lost from the winter drumline and winter guard ending early. If you are able to contribute, please make a donation at www.gahrband.org/donate. Thank you!

VIRTUAL BAND EXPERIENCE REGISTRATION - PAST DUE

At this point, all students should be registered for the Virtual Ensemble Experience. This project is required and will serve as your band โ€œfinal.โ€ ALL STUDENTS MUST REGISTER BEFORE GOING INTO THE PORTAL:

SENIOR โ€œSTAR-SPANGLED BANNERโ€ VIDEOS DUE ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Thank you to all the seniors who have turned in their videos so far!! Overall the videos are pretty solid, but we will need many of you to record it one more time. A couple reminders:

1. Please CLAP ๐Ÿ‘ audibly on count 4 (it gives you about 10 seconds to look pretty). Some of you didn't do this and I can't line it up (especially percussion).

2. We're having INTONATION issues overall, especially on long sustained notes. You might not notice it individually, but when I start layering them together, it becomes very noticeable. MATCH PITCH TO THE RECORDING AS YOU'RE PLAYING (maybe only 1 earbud?). If you have it too loud, you'll think you're in tune because you can't hear yourself. Also please tune before you play, and wouldn't hurt to run through it with a tuner on your stand.

3. Make arrangements to be wearing a cap and gown. Try to MAKE EYE CONTACT with the camera and smile (especially percussion), especially if you're just resting. ๐Ÿ˜ Make your part look interesting and don't be too much of a statue.

4. Match ARTICULATIONS (and timing) to the recording. Some of you are playing too clipped or too long. Literally just play exactly the same style the pros in the recording are.

5. Please record in PORTRAIT MODE (vertical) and make sure we can see you and your instrument in the camera (use front facing mode). 6. Percussion - Go for a good quality of sound and technique, but make sure you're not overplaying too much where the audio is bleeding (especially snare).

Please submit a better video by Wednesday with these considerations. Thank you!!

2020 BAND REGISTRATION FORM ๐Ÿ“

All incoming and returning members of the Gahr Marching Gladiators need to fill out the โ€œ2020 Band Registration Form.โ€ This replaces many of the band camp forms and will cut down on paperwork. There is a link to the 2020-21 Handbook in the form. Thank you for helping us get off to a good start!
