BAND CAMP FOR EVERYONE THIS WEEK!

Great work this past week Winds and Color Guard! A huge THANK YOU to our incredible booster parents who helped with check-in and lunch, and to all the instructors who taught throughout the week. Band Camp for EVERYONE is this week, Monday-Friday, August 9-13th from 8:30AM-5PM each day! This is MANDATORY for all winds, battery, front ensemble, and color guard members to have a spot in our 2021 field show production.

Students must bring a 1-gallon water jug and wear athletic clothes, athletic/tennis shoes (no sandals or converse), sunscreen, and a hat. Eat a good breakfast and arrive early. If you have not turned in the 1st donation of $150, please bring it tomorrow. We accept checks payable to “Gahr Band Boosters,” cash, or you can pay online. It is critical that all donations are turned in on time. We cannot pay our instructional staff or register for competitions without your contribution. Please communicate with Mr. Loney if you have any issues.

THIS WEEK: On Tuesday 8/10 the Marching Band & Color Guard Order Form is due, on Thursday 8/12 we will have Gahr HS Registration and uniform fitting at 7:45AM, Friday 8/13 is our Family Beach Bonfire, and this Saturday 8/14 is the Car Wash.

1. MARCHING BAND & GUARD ORDER FORM DUE TUESDAY 8/10 — There are several required items you will need to be in the marching band. Many of these items should be a one-time purchase that can be reused year after year. If you are in the winds or percussion sections, you will need a Gahr Marching Gladiators Hoodie, a Band Polo Shirt, and Black Drillmasters Marching Shoes. If you are in the color guard section, you will need ALL of the items listed on the color guard order form. All order forms and money are due this Tuesday, August 10th to receive in time for our first competition.

2. BAND CAMP LUNCHES, DONATIONS & VOLUNTEERS — Bring $5 to receive lunch from the boosters each day (or pay for all the lunches in advance). You may also bring your own sack lunch each day. We request donation items through Sign Up Genius, and your student will receive a free lunch ticket when you donate! All donation items must be dropped off Monday morning each week. Please note that we will be serving spaghetti and meat sauce this Wednesday 8/11 (instead of chicken patty sandwiches). 3. GAHR REGISTRATION & UNIFORM FITTING THIS THURSDAY 8/12 — All students in the Gahr Marching Gladiators have school registration this Thursday, August 12th at 7:45AM - DO NOT BE LATE (ignore your normal registration day/time by grade level). Please have all of your forms ready to turn in, as well as $55 for an ASB Card and $60 for transportation. Students will also be getting their yearbook photo taken, so dress nicely! After you finish registration, all band and percussion students need to go directly to the Band Room to get fitted for a uniform. PLEASE ALLOW ANY PARENTS WHO ARE HELPING WITH UNIFORM FITTING TO THE FRONT OF THE REGISTRATION LINE SO THEY ARE ABLE TO SIZE YOUR STUDENT!! Once you finish uniform fitting, you have the rest of the morning off before rehearsal at 1PM. Please note that the boosters will NOT be providing lunch.

4. FAMILY BEACH BONFIRE THIS FRIDAY 8/13 — Join us this Friday, August 13th for our annual family Band Camp Beach Bonfire at Bolsa Chica State Beach! Try to carpool because parking is $15. Bring a towel, warm clothes, and the assigned items by section. If you are getting dropped off, please make sure you have a ride to pick you up by 8:45PM so we can leave by 9PM. We look forward to seeing you there!

5. CAR WASH — This Saturday, August 14th is our annual "Gahr Wash" at Gahr High School from 9AM-2PM! Students can pre-sell car wash tickets to raise money for their student account and earn 100% of the profit. ALL STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED AT LEAST FIVE (5) TICKETS TO SELL LAST WEEK. Cars are just $6 and SUVs/trucks are $8. All students must participate in the car wash. Students will be able to sign up this week for the following UPDATED car wash shifts:
1ST SHIFT is 8:30-11:00AM (help with set up first 30 minutes)
2ND SHIFT is 10:45AM-12:45PM
3RD SHIFT is 12:15-2:15PM (help with clean up last 15 minutes)

6. BAND CAMP SNEAK PREVIEW CONCERT/BBQ NEXT WEDNESDAY 8/18 — Our Band Camp BBQ & Sneak Preview Concert is next Wednesday, August 18th! See what your student has been working on and get a preview of our 2021 field show production, "LARGER THAN LIFE." Just $6 per person includes a hamburger or cheeseburger, baked beans, potato salad, cookie, and a drink. Anyone eating dinner (INCLUDING STUDENTS) needs to pay $6. Dinner begins at 5:30PM and the concert starts at approximately 6:30PM at the GHS Rally Platform (the outdoor stage with a Gladiator mural). ALL RSVPs AND MONEY ARE DUE BY TUESDAY, AUGUST 17. 7. GET YOUR OFFICIAL BOOSTER MEMBERSHIP — Become an official Gahr Band Booster Member! You’ll receive a high-quality embroidered lanyard and a 2021 field show t-shirt. You can wear your shirt to home football games and get in free when you volunteer at our concessions stand! Membership is just $25 per person. 8. ATHLETIC CLEARANCE THROUGH FAMILY ID — All new and returning students must complete their athletic clearance to be admitted into the band or color guard by July 23rd. You will also have the option to pre-pay the ASB and Transportation Fee. Here are the steps:

1. Get a physical exam. You need to bring a print out of Gahr’s Physical Evaluation Form for the doctor to fill out. It is highly recommend to use a walk-in clinic instead of scheduling this with your primary care physician. If you are still looking for a walk-in clinic, this one is available for $30 cash.

9. ADDITIONAL FUNDRAISERS — Have you sold any program ads or sent out sponsorship letters?? This is a great time to raise funds for your fall donations before we get busy with school. It may take a few hours, but you can easily raise $500 or more by selling program ads and mailing out sponsorship letters!

  • Field Show Program Ads - Earn 90% of the profit from all field show ad sales. The ad prices range from $25 to $175. Many local businesses are looking for ways to advertise to the community. Ask Mr. Loney for a field show program booklet to help sell ads.

  • Student Sponsorship Letter - 100% of the money sponsorships goes directly to your student account. These take a few hours to complete and mail out, but the return on investment is HUGE if you can make $400-$500. Make sure to include a photo of your band or guard student! This is a great way your family and loved ones can help support.
