Congratulations to William Wu and Gabriel Dominguez on performing this weekend with the ALL-STATE ensembles at the California All-State Music Education Conference! Thank you to the drumline for doing a last-second lunch rally performance this past Thursday to support our Girls Basketball team. A HUGE THANK YOU to all the students who helped with our Valentine’s Day SAX-Y GRAMS! It was our first time bringing it back since 2020, and we ended up selling over 175 SAX-Y GRAMS!! We would also like to thank Mrs. Lopez who picked up the roses. Thank you to Mrs. Barcelos and everyone who helped make this past weekend’s FUNDrive clothing & shoe recycling drive a success! This weekend, the Varsity Winter Guard will be traveling to perform in the WGI San Diego Regional! We have a MANDATORY Parent/Student San Diego Meeting this Thursday 2/23 at 8:30PM in the Gym. We will be going through the most updated itinerary, rules/expectations for the trip, and will have the new show shirts to hand out to students and parents who have purchased them. VARSITY GUARD COSTUMES WILL BE READY THIS WEEK!! Please make sure you’re caught up with the first two donations so we can pay for your costume.

On Saturday 2/25, we have our first Jazz Band performance at the Mayfair Jazz Festival! Jazz Band will have rehearsal on Wednesday morning at 7:20AM and a run-through on Friday after school to finish preparing for the Mayfair Jazz Festival. Please make sure you’ve purchased your jazz band vest and tie to wear on Saturday.

To prepare for next week’s CSUF Band Festival, Wind Ensemble has normal rehearsal this Tuesday from 3:30-5:45PM, sectionals on Concertango on Wednesday from 3:30-4:30PM, and full Combined Band rehearsal (Concert Band & Wind Ensemble) on Thursday from 3:30-5:45PM.

MAYFAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL THIS SATURDAY!

Our first jazz festival is this Saturday, February 25th at Mayfair High School! Make sure you have a WHITE, long sleeve, button-up dress shirt, solid BLACK dress pants, long black socks, and black dress shoes. Bring $35 if you need a vest and $10 to get the new blue paisley necktie. WE NEED 100% ATTENDANCE THIS WEEK TO BE SUCCESSFUL FOR THE FESTIVAL! Keep practicing and running through your music with the recordings every day.

VARSITY GUARD SAN DIEGO TRIP!

We’re excited to be traveling this Saturday and Sunday, February 25th and 26th to the Winter Guard International (WGI) San Diego Regional competition! CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE MOST CURRENT ITINERARY. We have a MANDATORY Parent/Student San Diego Meeting this Thursday 2/23 at 8:30PM in the Gym. All students must be paid in full for the trip by this point. We accept cash, checks made payable to “Gahr Band Boosters,” or you can click here to pay online. This covers lodging for one night, as well as meals throughout the weekend. Students are still welcome to bring additional money for food and snacks at the competition site.

The students will be staying at The Hilton Garden Inn (about 4 miles from the competition site). As with all trips for the Gahr Instrumental Music Program, students must stay in the hotel with other students. We ask that students stay together as a group for the entire weekend – traveling to/from San Diego, meals offsite, etc. It is great that a number of parents and families will be coming to support, but we ask that you please do not pull your child away from the rest of the group. Your child will make friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

We are asking for all students to carpool with the same students that will be in their hotel room – one room per vehicle. There are many times throughout the weekend that we will be traveling – to and from the hotel to the show site, to dinner, back to the hotel, etc. This will help to make sure no one is left behind (and also that the students are not walking around alone). This is also another chance for students to bond and have fun on the trip. We are looking forward to a fun trip and to celebrating all the hard work of our first ever Varsity Winter Guard!
