THIS WEEK #3
I hope you had a great 3-day weekend. It was great to see everyone at last week’s parent meeting! We have a lighter, shorter week, but here are three areas where we need your help:
Gahr Marching Gladiators Cookbook - All recipes are due by this Saturday, September 12th
Coffee with the Principal this Friday 9/11 @ 8AM - The link will be emailed out by the school.
Final call for Booster Memberships - Make sure you’re included in the first batch of our new shirts!
Please read below for more detailed information and updates.
⠀⠀
GAHR MARCHING GLADIATORS COOKBOOK! 🍳
We’re putting together a Gahr Marching Gladiators cookbook and would love to feature your family’s favorite recipes! We are collecting time-tested recipes from parents, students, and alumni — as well as all your favorite recipes from Band Camp and from Mr. Loney! This cookbook is certain to become a treasured keepsake, and will give you plenty of things to make while you’re stuck at home.
Please submit 3-5 of your favorite recipes so you can be represented in our group’s cookbook! Your family’s name will be printed with each of your recipes. ALL RECIPES ARE DUE BY THIS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH. Please follow the guidelines on the Google form so that we are able to include your submissions. Thank you in advance for sharing so that our cookbook will be a huge success!
⠀⠀
COFFEE WITH THE PRINCIPAL THIS FRIDAY @ 8AM
Please join Dr. Lois for “Coffee with the Principal” this Friday, September 11th at 8AM. This is a great way to stay in the loop with what is going on. The link will be emailed out by the school.
⠀⠀
BECOME AN OFFICIAL BAND BOOSTER!
Become an official booster member by purchasing your booster membership! Your membership includes a t-shirt and lanyard. We have created a special “Gahr Marching Gladiators” t-shirt that will be included in your booster membership! All parents and guardians are welcome to attend any meeting, but your official membership and cool t-shirt will give you extra bragging rights ;)
⠀⠀
VIDEO ASSIGNMENTS CONTINUE THIS WEEK 📹
All students have a weekly video assignment that is posted on Google Classroom. Because we’re not in person, video assignments are the primary way that instructors are able to give individual feedback, and they comprise 40% of your student’s grade. PARENTS: Please make sure your student is practicing, recording, and uploading their videos to Google Classroom. STUDENTS: The metronome must be audible and you must be on camera to evaluate timing, embouchure, hand position, and technique. Thank you!
⠀⠀
SECTIONALS CONTINUE THIS WEEK 🎺
Wind players have one sectional with Mr. Loney every other week from 2:30-3:30PM. These rehearsals are part of your grade and will cover information specific to your section. You will always use the “P7-Marching Band” Zoom link for these rehearsals. Color Guard rehearses every Thursday until 2:30PM.
NEXT WEEK —
Monday 9/7: NO SCHOOL
Tuesday 9/8: Tenor Sax, Trombone, Baritone
Thursday 9/10: Tubas, Low Reeds
⠀⠀
FALL SEMESTER DONATION PAST DUE
The total donation for the fall semester is $150. Your donation helps pay for coaches, music, and materials during the entire first semester. We are planning to bring in instructors on a weekly basis for all classes, but are unable to do this without your donation. This donation is important so we are able to pay our instructors on time.
We accept checks made to "Gahr Band Boosters," cash, or you can make the first semester donation online. If you need to work out additional fundraisers or a payment plan, please email Mr. Loney, Director of Bands, at darren.loney@abcusd.us.
⠀⠀
INSTRUMENT & EQUIPMENT DONATION 🎷
There is a $35 Instrument & Equipment Donation for wind players using a school instrument and students in the battery, front ensemble, and color guard. This helps cover basic wear and tear on the instruments; pays for "consumable" items such as drum heads, sticks, and mallets; and gives us funds to provide school flags and rifles. If you’re using a school instrument or equipment and have not made this donation, please turn this in as soon as possible. Thank you!
⠀⠀
STUDENT SONG REQUESTS 🎶
We’re looking for some good music to play during passing periods and screen breaks! Your requests will go into a special playlist for your class period. All songs must be school appropriate with clean lyrics. Use this Google form to request songs:

⠀⠀⠀
ATHLETIC CLEARANCE 🏈
Still confused about how Athletic Clearance works this year?? Don’t worry, you’re not alone! With the transition from paper to digital, there have been a few bumps along the way. Here’s the most up-to-date information!
All students must register through the Family ID website:
https://www.familyid.com/gahr-high-school
Once you’re registered, download the “Physical Evaluation” form. Print out the form and take it with you so the physician can complete it during your physical exam.
This is an updated list of walk-in clinics who are currently doing physicals. Call ahead to schedule an appointment, but most of the time you can get in the same day. These are typically around $20, and they usually prefer cash.
Dr. Jess J. Soria III
Phone: (562) 924-5009
Address: 19112 Gridley Rd #102, Cerritos, CA 90703
Sheila Weddle, DC, CCSP
Phone: (562) 866-8384
Address: 5687 Woodruff Ave, Lakewood, CA 90713
Dr. Richard Anderson
Phone: (562) 594-6538
Address: 10671 Los Alamitos Blvd., Los Alamitos, CA 90720
In addition to these walk-in clinics, you may also schedule an appointment with your primary care physician. This is a great way to make sure your student is current with vaccines and the latest flu shot.
After you finish your physical, upload your paperwork to the Family ID website. Because there are no competitions this first semester, you do not need to pay any transportation or ASB fees at this point. Please note that you will need to pay these fees if competitions resume second semester. Let me know if you have any other questions.
