Dear students and parents,
This has been an amazing week for our music program! 🎶 A huge congratulations to all of our students for their hard work and incredible performances. Here are some highlights:
🌟 Wind Ensemble – Delivered an outstanding performance at the SCSBOA Festival at Kennedy HS last Tuesday, earning a “Unanimous Superior” rating – the highest rating possible! 🎉
🌟 Jazz Bands – Both groups had fantastic performances at the Esperanza Jazz Festival on Saturday! Jazz II earned 3rd place in the Novice division, and Jazz I took 2nd place in the Advanced division! Thank you to all the parents who came to support both bands! We will continue learning new music this week as we prepare for the Cerritos College Jazz Festival on Wednesday, April 9th and the ABC District Jazz Showcase on Monday, April 14th.
🌟 Winter Guard – Had phenomenal performances at the WGI Manhattan Beach Regional this past weekend, earning 3rd place in Scholastic Open!
🌟 Parent Booster Meeting – Thank you to everyone who joined us on Wednesday for our monthly meeting. Your support is truly appreciated!
We have a big week ahead with our last Concert Band & Wind Ensemble rehearsal on Tuesday from 3:30-6:30PM, ABC District Band Festival Wednesday evening, and an important Indoor Percussion rehearsal on Saturday from 10AM-6PM. Let’s have a great week!
ABC DISTRICT BAND FESTIVAL THIS WEDNESDAY 3/12
We’re excited for the ABC District Band Festival this Wednesday, March 12th at the Whitney MAC! Here’s a quick rundown of our performance times:
🎵 Concert Band – 6:00PM (Clinic at 6:30PM in the Band Room)
🎵 Wind Ensemble – 8:00PM (Clinic at 8:30PM on stage)
Both groups will perform for a panel of expert adjudicators and receive a valuable clinic session. The festival is FREE and open to the public, so we encourage families to attend and support our musicians! Parents are also welcome to observe the clinic sessions. The boosters will be providing dinner for all the students between bands.
We have one final rehearsal this Tuesday, March 11th, from 3:30–6:30PM for both Concert Band and Wind Ensemble to finish preparing for festival. Attendance is crucial – students must be in attendance for this rehearsal or they may not perform at festival.
To ensure the best possible experience for our students, we’ve made the decision to add Wind Ensemble students for Wednesday’s Concert Band performance, as well as to help out with the SCSBOA Festival next Friday, March 21st. Concert Band has been working hard and making great progress, but they need additional support to be fully prepared. This adjustment will allow all students to have a stronger and more rewarding performance experience.
Call time for all students is 4:55PM this Wednesday at Whitney HS wearing all black concert attire – solid black, long-sleeved, collared, button-up dress shirt, black dress pants/slacks, long black socks, and black dress shoes.

The 4th Donation of $120 for Winter Guard is due this Friday, March 14th. All members of the Winter Guard must be caught up with all outstanding donations in order to go to WGI West Power Regional next Saturday, March 22nd. SAVE THE DATE! We need ALL PARENTS to come to an important meeting on Wednesday, April 2nd at 6:30PM. In addition to our general booster meeting with information for upcoming fundraisers and performances, we’ll be kicking off a Mattress Fundraiser. If we have over 100 parents in attendance, our program will automatically receive $1,000! Let’s make it happen!
