WELCOME BACK!
Congratulations to both the Winter Drumline and Varsity Winter Guard on productive camp days learning their 2023 productions! We have a lot of exciting things in store for our concert groups, the jazz band, Indoor Percussion, and the JV and Varsity Winter Guards! We’re also getting closer to our summer Hawaii band & color guard trip! Remember, you only get out of it what you put into it, so keep up the hard work so we can continue to perform at a high level.

WIND AUDITION PLACEMENTS — All wind players in the program will be evaluated over the next two weeks for ensemble placement in either Concert Band or Wind Ensemble. This will be based on excerpts from concert music, honor band music, a few scales, and sight-reading. Past membership or “seniority” does not guarantee a spot in the Wind Ensemble. Both the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble are SUPERIOR LEVEL ensembles with the same standards, the main difference being that Wind Ensemble plays more challenging literature. Percussionists will prepare for their placement separately in the 6th period percussion class.
During 2nd semester, winds and percussionists in Wind Ensemble will rehearse on Tuesdays from 3:30-6:00PM. Winds and percussionists assigned to Concert Band will rehearse on Thursdays from 3:30-6:00PM. As we get closer to performances, there may be a few rehearsals where we will have “Combined Band” together on Thursdays.
Tuesday 1/10 from 3:30-5:30PM — All woodwinds (in the entire program)
Thursday 1/11 from 3:30-5:30PM — All brass (in the entire program)

MONTHLY BOOSTER MEETING WEDNESDAY — Join us this Wednesday, January 11th at 6:30PM for our first Booster Parent Meeting of 2023! As we move to concert and winter season, we will be going through important information about rehearsals, performances, and fundraisers. We’ll also have an update for our upcoming Hawaii Trip! Our students can’t be successful without your support! We will be meeting in the “Band Room” — Rooms 609/610.

JAZZ BAND — Great performance at the holiday concert, and thank you for all your hard work to get the set put together! This week we will start preparing new music for jazz festival performances and Knott’s Berry Farm “Music in the Parks.” It does not look like we will be having any regular after-school practices for Jazz Band this year due to the drumline and concert rehearsal schedule, so we will need to max out the zero period time. If you are new to the Jazz Band this year, Mr. Loney will be taking orders soon for vests and ties. See you tomorrow at 7:20AM!
