OUR END-OF-YEAR AWARDS BANQUET IS THIS THURSDAY, MAY 16TH AT 6:00PM AT THE CERRITOS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS! DOORS OPEN AT 5:30PM. THE BANQUET IS PRE-SALE ONLY – NO WALK-UPS. PLEASE JOIN US FOR OUR FINAL BOOSTER MEETING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR TODAY, TUESDAY, MAY 14TH AT 6:30PM IN THE BAND ROOM! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE TAKING THE AP MUSIC THEORY EXAM ON WEDNESDAY AND TO OUR SENIORS AT CANDLE ROSE AND SENIOR AWARDS ON FRIDAY!
Congratulations to Jazz A and Jazz B on outstanding performances this past weekend at the RCC Jazz Festival! Both jazz bands earned a “Superior” rating, and Jazz B took 2nd in the novice division and Jazz A took 3rd place in the heavy division. The students had a great time in clinics and watching performances from other bands as well as the RCC Jazz Orchestra with professional trumpet player Wayne Bergeron. This was our first year with two jazz bands and we are excited to continue to grow the jazz program even more next year! If you are interested in joining, please talk to Mr. Loney and we can get you worked in!!
Our first-ever Jazz Concert will be next Wednesday, May 22nd at 6:30PM in the Gahr HS MPR! This will be our first concert in the new MPR featuring performances from the Ross MS Jazz Band, Gahr HS Jazz B, and Gahr HS Jazz A. Hear some fantastic music and support our incredible student musicians. Admission is FREE!
Congratulations on an amazing Area Concert last Wednesday! We had a PACKED HOUSE with fantastic performances from our combined elementary band, Ross Middle School, Haskell Middle School, Tetzlaff Middle School, and Gahr High School. A HUGE THANK YOU to all of the parents who ran the concessions, merchandise, and gift basket raffle! Special thanks to ABCUSD Board Clerk, Mr. Ernie Nishii; ABCUSD Superintendent, Dr. Gina Zietlow; Assistant Superintendent Academic Services Dr. Carol Castro; Director of Secondary Schools, Dr. Ricardo Lois; Director of Schools TK-6th Grade, Dr. Mayra Lozano; and Gahr High School Assistant Principal, Mrs. Alyssa Chen for attending the concert! SNAP RAISE FUNDRAISER – There’s only 5 days left in our Snap Raise fundraiser for the Rose Parade! Donations raised go to help your son or daughter march in the 2025 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade! Please note that you will not personally receive money back if you raise over the amount individually needed; however, it will be used to support other students from our school who are participating. If we are able to cover all of our students, any extra money beyond that will be donated back to our band program. We have currently raised over $78,000 amongst all the participating schools and are super close to our goal of $80,000!
DRUMLINE & GUARD WORKSHOPS NEXT WEEK!
We have Drumline and Color Guard Workshops on Monday and Tuesday, May 20th and 21st from 4-6PM! No experience is necessary – just a positive attitude. On Tuesday, May 21st there is a New Student/Parent Meeting at 6:30PM in the Band Room. We will be going through important information about Band & Guard Workshops, Band Camp, and the 2024-25 school year!
Band & Color Guard Workshops are Tuesday, June 4th and Thursday, June 6th for all NEW & RETURNING students from 5-8PM. Please arrive by 4:30PM each day to check in. Attendance at these workshops is mandatory and reserves your spot in our 2024 field show production.
Band Camp is July 22nd through August 2nd, Monday-Friday, from 8:30AM-5PM each day. During Band Camp, students learn the basics and fundamentals necessary for our competitive field show production, including warm-ups, exercises, marching techniques, music, drill, and choreography. All students MUST ATTEND BAND CAMP to be admitted into the field show for the fall semester.
If you have any friends who are interested, bring them along too! No experience is necessary, and as long as they work hard and have a positive attitude, we will be able to teach them everything they need to know to be successful. We're gearing up for an amazing year!!
ALL DONATIONS PAST DUE – ALL PAYMENTS FOR THE JV GUARD, VARSITY GUARD, INDOOR PERCUSSION, AND MARCHING BAND ARE PAST DUE. WE NEED TO PAY OUR INSTRUCTORS FOR THE TIME THEY HAVE ALREADY WORKED AND CANNOT DO THAT WITHOUT YOUR DONATION. STUDENTS MUST BE CAUGHT UP WITH OUTSTANDING DONATIONS TO ATTEND THE AWARDS BANQUET.
