WE HAVE A BIG WEEK AHEAD WITH SCSBOA REGIONAL FESTIVAL THIS THURSDAY 4/25 AT KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL. GIFT BASKET ITEMS/MONEY IS DUE THIS FRIDAY 4/26. ALL STUDENTS IN THE PROGRAM (WINDS, PERCUSSION, AND GUARD) WILL BE MEETING AFTER SCHOOL IN THE BAND ROOM ON WEDNESDAY FOR A SNAP-RAISE KICK-OFF MEETING. THIS SATURDAY IS OUR SPRING FUNDRIVE EVENT – DROP OFF BAGS ANYTIME FROM 9AM-2PM AT GAHR HIGH SCHOOL!

Great work this past week! Last Wednesday the Wind Ensemble had a clinic with composer Rossano Galante. This was an incredible experience and the students had a fantastic time rehearsing and with the Q&A after the clinic! On Friday, the Varsity Guard, Indoor Percussion, and Jazz A had great performances at the school pep rally. Thank you to everyone for your hard work and special thanks to Mr. Velez and ASB for the pizza mingle!

This weekend the JV Guard and Varsity Guard wrapped up their seasons at WGASC Championship Finals! On Saturday, JV Guard had an amazing final performance and earned 3rd place in Scholastic AAA! On Sunday, Varsity Guard had their best run of the season and took the SILVER MEDAL in Scholastic Open!! Thank you to the members and our instructors for all of their hard work and dedication. Thank you to all of the parents and alumni who helped make this season so successful.

SCSBOA REGIONAL FESTIVAL @ KENNEDY HS THIS THURSDAY

Both the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble will be performing at SCSBOA Regional Festival this Thursday 4/25 at Kennedy HS! Concert Band performs at 4:45PM and Wind Ensemble is at 6:30PM. Family and friends are welcome to attend – and festival is FREE and open to the public. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to find a seat in the auditorium. After we perform in the main performance hall, we will move on to sight-reading. Family and friends are allowed to follow the band into the sight-reading room to watch.

STUDENTS: Please continue to practice your festival pieces DAILY with a metronome and listen to the recordings. We need to max out our remaining rehearsals and need 100% attendance so we can be successful. This is the first time Gahr has ever performed at SCSBOA Regional Festival and it is a huge honor!!

On Thursday, please come to school wearing your ALL BLACK concert attire. During block 4th period Wind Ensemble, we will be ending early to help load instruments and equipment under the buses. All other students need to report to the Band Room immediately after 4th period to finish loading and get on the bus ASAP. THE BUS WILL BE LEAVING AT 12:45PM. THERE WILL NOT BE TIME TO CHANGE AT LUNCH OR EAT FROM THE CAFETERIA. Please bring a sack lunch or money to eat concessions at Kennedy High School. The snack bar will have hot dogs, chips, ramen, cookies, and drinks throughout the day.

Please make sure you turn in a basket item, gift card, or money by this Friday 4/26. This is a huge fundraiser for the music program and we need your help! PARENTS: We will have a basket-making party on Saturday at 10:00AM if you’re interested in helping out. Thank you!!

FUNDRIVE DONATION EVENT – THIS SATURDAY 4/27

Clean out your closets for a good cause! We’re collecting men’s, women’s, and children’s clothes, shoes, coats, scarves, ties, belts, bedding, comforters, blankets, towels, linens, pillows, and more! Place donated items into 13-gallon kitchen trash bags. All items must be clean and in sellable condition.

DROP-OFF: Please drop off bags at Gahr High School this Saturday, April 27th from 9AM-2PM.

MUSIC IN THE PARKS FESTIVAL!

Jazz A and Jazz B will be participating in the Music in the Parks Festival on Friday, May 3rd! There will be an adjudicated performance in the morning, after which the students will have free time at Knott’s Berry Farm. There will be an awards ceremony for all the Music in the Parks participants at Knott’s later in the evening. STUDENTS: Money for the trip was due last Friday, April 19th — please turn in ASAP if you haven’t yet. The Festival + Knott’s ticket is $75.00.

WE NEED TO PAY OUR INSTRUCTORS FOR THE TIME THEY HAVE ALREADY WORKED AND CANNOT DO THAT WITHOUT YOUR DONATION.
