We are having difficulty paying our instructional staff for the time they have already worked because we do not have all donations in yet. This year we have four amazing gift baskets on display in the Band Room, including family 4-packs of passes for Universal Studios, Knott's Berry Farm, and a brand new Nespresso Coffee Maker! Send money with your student to purchase raffle tickets from Mr. Loney! You're also welcome to stop by the Band Room anytime to check out the baskets in-person and buy raffle tickets.

The opportunity drawing will take place on Wednesday, May 17th at the Gahr HS Area Concert in the gym! The event starts at 6:30PM and we will call basket winners throughout the concert. You do not need to be present to win as long as your name and phone number are written on the ticket.

RCC JAZZ FESTIVAL THIS SATURDAY 5/13

The Jazz Band will be performing at the RCC Jazz Festival this Saturday, May 13th! The festival is at the Coil School for the Arts facility on University Ave. This performance is free and open to the public. Call time on Saturday is 12:45PM wearing jazz concert attire to load the bus ASAP. Eat a big lunch before you arrive and bring money for dinner. We perform at 3:00PM in the Concert Hall, followed by a clinic and sight-reading (parents are welcome to watch). We will stay to watch the other advanced bands, heavy bands, the RCC Monday Evening Jazz Ensemble with John Daversa, and the awards ceremony! We will be returning back to Gahr at approximately 9:15PM.

LEADERSHIP APPLICATIONS

STUDENT LEADERSHIP APPLICATIONS — We’re looking for students who are interested in being a part of our 2022-23 Leadership Team! Applications must be completed and turned in by: Monday, May 22, 2023 by 11:59PM. Please be prompt and professional with your application. If selected, leadership interviews will take place in the Band Room on Friday, May 26 at 3:30PM. Please CAREFULLY read through the leadership application, and if you have any questions, contact Mr. Loney.

GAHR AREA CONCERT — WEDNESDAY, MAY 17TH

The Gahr Area Concert is this Wednesday 5/17 at 6:30PM in the Gahr HS Gym! We've got a fun evening planned, including music from Indiana Jones and Super Mario Bros.!

Admission is FREE – but you can support buy purchasing raffle tickets for gift baskets featuring family 4-packs of passes for Universal Studios, Knott's Berry Farm, and a brand new Nespresso Coffee Maker! We’ll also have snacks, drinks, and merchandise available too. PARENTS: This is a big fundraiser for the program and we need your help (especially if you’re a color guard parent). STUDENTS: Our final rehearsals are this week on Tuesday 5/9 and Thursday 5/11from 3:30-5:30PM and next week on Monday 5/15 and Tuesday 5/16 also from 3:30-5:30PM. Attendance is required at these rehearsals to participate in the performance. Make sure you keep practicing your music and have your all black concert attire ready so you look good. Call time for the Area Concert is Wednesday 5/17 at 5:00PM in the Band Room.

HAWAII PERFORMANCE TRIP

We’re counting down the days until we’ll be in the Aloha State! ALL BAND STUDENTS need to order a 2023 Hawaii T-shirt ($15) and have a Gahr Band polo shirt ($25). ALL GUARD STUDENTS only need the 2023 Hawaii T-shirt (no polo). ALL STUDENTS need to have a pair of khaki shorts for performances. If you already own a pair of khaki shorts you can use those or you can use the Amazon links below to order. THE DEADLINE FOR ALL SHIRT ORDERS IS FRIDAY, MAY 19TH.
