HAPPY 2022!!
Happy New Year!! I hope you had a great Winter Break and are ready for 2022! Congratulations to saxophonist Rudy Colato on performing yesterday in the Tournament of Roses Honor Band!! We have a lot of exciting performances coming up for our concert groups, jazz band, Winter Drumline, and Winter Guard. Remember, you only get out of it what you put into it, so keep up the hard work and practicing so we can have a great rest of the year! TODAY: Finish all your assignments and go to bed early tonight!

MONTHLY BOOSTER MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY — Join us this Wednesday, January 5th at 6:30PM for our first Booster Parent Meeting of 2022!! As we move to concert and winter season, we will be going through important information about rehearsals, performances, and fundraisers. We will also be discussing the move towards weekly COVID testing so our students can be in compliance with indoor rehearsals. We will either be meeting in the MPR or the staff lounge (adjacent to the Band Room). See you there!!

Ring in the New Year with a brand new 2022 Wall Calendar! It’s filled with beautiful photos from throughout our award-winning field season. We currently have about 15 calendars in stock. We also still have decorative Christmas tree ornaments! These can be picked up in the Band Room office from Mr. Loney starting tomorrow.

WINTER GUARD & WINTER DRUMLINE — Make sure you’re ready to rock this week!! Both groups have performances starting in February! The 1st Winter Guard Donation of $150 was due Monday, December 27, 2021. The 1st Winter Drumline Donation of $175 is due this Friday, January 7th. This is super important so we can begin paying for production costs - including props and costumes. ALL MEMBERS OF BOTH GROUPS SHOULD HAVE TURNED IN THE PARENTAL CONSENT FORM. JAZZ BAND — Great performance at the district office and the holiday concert!! This week we start preparing new music for upcoming jazz festival performances. We can still add a few more members if there’s anyone interested in joining! We are adding Jazz Band rehearsals on MONDAYS 3-5PM (instead of Fridays). For now, we’re keeping rhythm section on Monday mornings, winds on Tuesday mornings, and full jazz band on Thursday mornings.

WIND AUDITION PLACEMENTS — All wind players in the program will be evaluated in the next two weeks for ensemble placement in either Concert Band or Wind Ensemble. This will be based on excerpts from concert music, a few scales, and sight-reading some rhythms. Past membership in Wind Ensemble does not guarantee a spot in this group. Make sure you practice EVERY DAY so that you are showing what you are capable of. Keep in mind that both the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble are SUPERIOR LEVEL ensembles with the same standards, the main difference being that Wind Ensemble plays more challenging literature.
Please see below for the practice and audition schedule for woodwinds and brass. Percussionists will prepare for their placement separately in the 6th period percussion class, and will have a final/audition on Thursday, January 20th during 6th period finals. During 2nd semester, winds and percussionists in Wind Ensemble will rehearse Tuesdays from 3-5PM. All winds and percussionists assigned to Concert Band will rehearse Thursdays from 3-5PM.
Tuesday 1/4 from 3-5PM — All woodwinds (in the entire program)
Thursday 1/6 from 3-5PM — All brass (in the entire program)
Tuesday & Wednesday 1/11-12 from 3-5PM — Woodwind auditions (10 min time slot)
Thursday & Friday 1/13-14 from 3-5PM — Brass auditions (10 min time slot)
Thursday 1/20 during 6th period — Percussion audition/final (10 min time slot)
Wind Ensemble rehearsals start Tuesday, January 25th from 3-5PM
Concert Band rehearsals start Thursday, January 27th from 3-5PM
