ABCUSD HONOR BAND CONCERT! – Thank you to everyone who came to watch the ABCUSD Honor Band Concert last Thursday! Both the middle school and high school did a wonderful job. Please click here to check out a video from the concert.
NORMAL BAND REHEARSALS THIS WEEK – Now that Honor Band is behind us, we’ve got really important full wind and percussion rehearsals for the concert groups as we prepare for our upcoming festival performances. Wind Ensemble is tomorrow, Tuesday 2/20 from 3:30-6:00PM and Concert Band is Thursday 2/22 from 3:30-6:00PM. Attendance at these rehearsals is MANDATORY. Please make sure you are practicing your music with a metronome DAILY. Wind Ensemble will be performing at the CSUF Festival of Winds next week – Saturday, March 2nd!
WGASC PARENT COMMITTEE MEETING 2/21 – The Gahr Instrumental Music Program will be hosting our first-ever WGASC Winter Guard competition on Sunday, April 7th in the Gahr HS Gym! This is a huge undertaking and we will need all hands on deck – not just color guard – to make this a success! Please join us for our first WGASC Committee Meeting THIS WEDNESDAY 2/21 at 6:30PM in the staff lounge (connected to the Band Room). We would love to see all of our guard parents in attendance, as well as band parents too!
FOLLOWING THE WGASC MEETING, MRS. VARNEY WILL BE MEETING WITH VARSITY GUARD PARENTS TO GO THROUGH THIS WEEKEND’S ITINERARY, RULES, AND PROTOCOLS FOR THE WGI SAN DIEGO TRIP. WE WILL ALSO HAVE JV AND VARSITY GUARD SHOW SHIRTS TO DISTRIBUTE!!
VARSITY GUARD WGI SAN DIEGO THIS WEEKEND 2/24-25
The Varsity Winter Guard will be participating in the WGI Regional Winter Guard competition held at Del Norte High School in San Diego this weekend, February 24-25th. This event draws the best Winter Guards from throughout the area and gives our students the opportunity to not only compete against these top guards, but also to watch some of the best groups in the nation competing in the world division. Please make sure you’ve turned in this permission form to Mr. Loney or Mr. Miller. In addition to the $150 to cover the trip, your student must be current on their Winter Guard donations in order to participate in the trip.
As with all trips for the Gahr Instrumental Music Program, students must stay in the hotel with other students. We are asking for all students to carpool with the same students that will be in their hotel room. We ask that students stay together as a group for the entire weekend. It is great that a number of parents and families will be coming to support, but we ask that you please do not pull your child away from the rest of the group.

MAYFAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL THIS FRIDAY 2/23 – Jazz A AND Jazz B will be performing in the Mayfair Jazz Festival THIS FRIDAY 2/23! Students will be excused from 6th period to have time to change, load, and travel to Mayfair High School. Please make sure you’ve turned in your money for ties (and vests for Jazz A) and the field trip form to Mr. Loney or Mr. Miller. Bring $15-20 for concessions to eat for dinner at the festival. The festival is FREE and open to the public!

WIND ENSEMBLE @ CSUF WIND BAND FESTIVAL 3/2
Next Saturday, March 2nd, the Wind Ensemble will be traveling to perform at the CSU Fullerton Wind Band Festival! This festival is FREE and open to the public. Gahr performs at 3:00PM in the Meng Concert Hall, followed by a clinic at 3:30PM. Family and friends are always welcome to follow the band and watch the clinic. Students will be meeting at 11:59AM at Gahr to warm up and then quickly load busses for the festival. Eat a BIG LUNCH before you arrive. Make sure you have your ALL-BLACK concert attire — black, long-sleeve, collared, button up dress shirt, black slacks/dress pants, black belt, LONG black socks, and black dress shoes.

3RD DRUMLINE & GUARD DONATION – The 3rd donation for Indoor Percussion is due Wednesday 3/6 and the 3rd donation for Winter Guard is due Thursday 3/7. This is critical so we are able to pay for instructors, costumes, and production costs. STUDENTS MUST BE CAUGHT UP WITH OUTSTANDING DONATIONS TO RECEIVE THEIR COSTUME. DATE CHANGES: WE HAVE SWAPPED FROM THE DRUMLINE SHOW 3/16 TO THE SCPA TEMESCAL CANYON SHOW ON 3/9 (DUE TO CALCULUS CAMP CONFLICTS). The Gahr Area Concert has been moved to Wednesday 5/8 at 6:30PM in the Gahr High School Gym. Our End-of-Year Awards Banquet has been moved to Thursday evening 5/16 at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.
