Congratulations on a great weekend for the Gahr Instrumental Music Program! On Friday, both Jazz A and Jazz B had outstanding performances at the Mayfair Jazz Festival! Jazz A came in 1st place in the Advanced division and Jazz B got 3rd place in the Novice division. This was the first time in Gahr history that we have ever had two Jazz Bands perform in a festival! Varsity Winter Guard competed this weekend in the WGI San Diego Regional and placed 3rd overall in Scholastic Open Finals! Way to go!! A HUGE THANK YOU to all the parents who came to support – especially those that helped out with props, equipment, and driving.

WIND ENSEMBLE @ CSUF WIND BAND FESTIVAL 3/2

This Saturday, March 2nd, the Wind Ensemble will be traveling to perform at the CSU Fullerton Wind Band Festival! Students will be meeting at 11:59AM at Gahr wearing all black-concert attire to warm up and then quickly load buses for the festival. Eat a BIG LUNCH before you arrive. If you are in Indoor Percussion, please note that we will no longer have a rehearsal in the morning.

We have an important rehearsal week as we finish preparing for the festival:
Tuesday 2/27 – Rehearsal 3:30-6:00PM
Wednesday 2/28 – Sectionals after school 3:30-4:15PM
Thursday 2/29 – Rehearsal 6:00-8:30PM (in the Band Room following the Concert Band rehearsal)

Gahr performs at 3:00PM in the Meng Concert Hall, followed by a clinic at 3:30PM. The CSUF festival is FREE and open to the public. Parking is also free at CSUF on the weekend! Family and friends are always welcome to follow the band after the performance and sit in on the clinic.

This is an incredible concert hall and we want you to not only SOUND great, but also LOOK great! Please make sure you show up wearing ALL-BLACK concert attire — black, long-sleeve, collared, button up dress shirt, black slacks/dress pants, black belt, long black socks, and black dress shoes. You may also wear an all black concert gown that goes below the knees when sitting (not a skirt). No short black socks or dark gray shirts/slacks.

VARSITY GUARD @ WGI MANHATTAN BEACH REGIONAL 3/2-3

The Varsity Winter Guard will be competing this coming weekend, Saturday, March 2nd and Sunday March 3rd, at the WGI Manhattan Beach Regional hosted at Mira Costa High School! This is another incredible performance opportunity on the national stage. Gahr is currently scheduled to perform at 6:18PM in WGI Regional Prelims on Saturday. SEE’S CANDY FUNDRAISER 2/28–3/15

We are so excited to begin our See’s Candy Online Fundraiser – Yum-Raiser!!!! This fundraiser is to help students raise money for their accounts, as well as give your family and friends an opportunity to purchase some delicious chocolate! Students can earn 20-50% profit (depending on item). Profits earned will go towards the participating student’s account. Items ordered will be shipped as soon as the order is placed. Last day to order is 3/15, so there will be enough time for delivery before Easter.

Band and Guard members and parents will receive an email with your own personalized link from the Yum-Raising site. This link will send you directly to the storefront that is already set up for our Gahr Band and Color Guard Spring 2024 Fundraiser. GAHR HOSTING WGASC SHOW 4/7

3RD DRUMLINE & GUARD DONATION

The 3rd donation for Indoor Percussion is due Wednesday 3/6 and the 3rd donation for Winter Guard is due Thursday 3/7. This is critical so we are able to pay for instructors, costumes, and production costs. STUDENTS MUST BE CAUGHT UP WITH OUTSTANDING DONATIONS TO RECEIVE THEIR COSTUME. DATE CHANGES: WE HAVE SWAPPED FROM THE DRUMLINE SHOW 3/16 TO THE SCPA TEMESCAL CANYON SHOW ON 3/9 (DUE TO CALCULUS CAMP CONFLICTS). The Gahr Area Concert has been moved to Wednesday 5/8 at 6:30PM in the Gahr High School Gym. Our End-of-Year Awards Banquet has been moved to Thursday evening 5/16 at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.
