THIS WEEK #22

Thank you to all the parents who Zoomed in to our Booster Meeting this past Wednesday! We’d also like to thank all the parents who have been helping behind the scenes with lunches, props, and uniforms! Finally, thank you to the Winter Drumline members who took advantage of the Krispy Kreme fundraiser and the Winter Guard members who participated in the Popcornopolis fundraiser! Great progress this week in all our ensembles, including Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, and Concert Band. Please note that Wind Ensemble will be rehearsing this Tuesday from 2:00-4:30PM due to the minimum day schedule and Open House night. Our first Winter Drumline competition is this Saturday, February 12th at Rancho Cucamonga HS! We can still use parent help tomorrow, Monday 2/7 at 5PM if you’d like to help work on the drumline props. Please read below for important information.

You may have heard that negotiations have stalled between the ABC Federation of Teachers and ABCUSD. Teachers will begin a “Work to Rule” campaign this week, in which teachers do no more than the professional responsibilities required in the Negotiated Agreement and Board of Education policies. Mr. Loney is a member of the ABCFT and stands in solidarity with teachers and nurses. However, “after school” rehearsals and practices WILL continue for the following three reasons:
1. All students in music program are enrolled in an actual 7th period class. This includes our after school Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Winter Drumline, and Winter Guard rehearsals.
2. Winter Drumline and Winter Guard are taught by outside instructors who are paid 100% through our Band Booster Organization (and your donations).
3. All our groups currently rehearsing are “in season,” with competitions and festivals beginning this week. Sports that are in season are also continuing to practice with their coaches, even if they are ABCUSD teachers.
The only change that will be implemented this week is that Mr. Loney will not be available to help students at break, lunch, or when the band is not actively rehearsing due to the Work to Rule campaign. We are hoping that the ABCFT and ABCUSD will reach an agreement soon. The students have been working hard and we’re looking forward to all our groups having a fantastic performance experience!
