WEEKLY UPDATE 8-28
Congratulations on a great second week of school! We had a busy week with our first Booster Parent Meeting of the year, a performance at Niemes Elementary, and a successful Saturday rehearsal. THANK YOU to all of the parents who helped on Saturday with uniforms, lunch, and prop building! Also, thank you for an amazing turnout at Tuesday’s Kick-Off Booster Meeting — we are gearing up for something special this year. Our 1st Home Football Game is this Friday, September 1st! PARENTS: We need help at the game with concessions, merchandise, and pushing on/off front ensemble equipment. If you wear your 2023 field show t-shirt and volunteer, you’ll get into the game for free! Click here to sign up to help with the football game!
The 3rd Donation of $150 is due this Friday, September 1st. We accept checks payable to “Gahr Band Boosters,” cash, or you make a payment online. It is critical that all donations are turned in on time. We cannot pay our instructional staff, purchase materials for props, or register for competitions without your contribution. Please communicate with Mr. Loney or Mr. Miller if you have any issues.
Just a reminder that at rehearsals, all students must wear a hat, athletic clothes, athletic/tennis shoes (no sandals or converse), sunscreen, and bring a 1-gallon water jug. You may keep these items in the Band Room and change at lunch or after school. Continue to hydrate 24 hours ahead of time, eat breakfast/lunch/dinner, and get plenty of rest. Make sure you’re washing your hands frequently so we don’t spread germs.
BAND UNIFORM FITTING — Tomorrow, Monday, August 28th, all winds, battery, and front ensemble students need to bring their black, sleeveless compression shirt, black compression shorts, long, black socks, and black marching shoes (if you don’t have shoes yet, we will have some for you to borrow). We will have band students try on their uniform tomorrow from 5:00-6:00PM.

1ST HOME FOOTBALL GAME THIS FRIDAY 9/1 — This Friday, September 1st is our first Home Football Game vs Ocean View HS! At halftime, we will be performing the first movement of our 2023 field show production. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR THE FULL ITINERARY. As always, attendance at rehearsals is extremely important to ensure that we are able to have our best performance possible. This week, we will be memorizing the Star-Spangled Banner, learning more pep tunes, and will continuing working on the field show production. Make sure you always hydrate the day before. THE GAHR MARCHING GLADIATORS STAY UNTIL THE END OF THE GAME TO CHEER AND SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL AND THE TEAM!!

STUDENTS: Wear your field show shirt to school on Friday! Bring your sleeveless, black compression shirt, black compression shorts, long black socks, and black marching shoes. Make sure your music binder is organized with all the pep tunes for the game.
BOOSTER MEMBERSHIP — It’s not too late to become an official Booster Member and get a 2023 field show shirt and a Gahr Marching Gladiators lanyard. POPCORNOPOLIS FUNDRAISER — Our annual Popcornopolis fundraiser is now underway! EACH FAMILY MUST SELL A MINIMUM OF $70.00 IN SALES (approximately 8-9 bags). All profit from bags sold thereafter (50% of the cost) go to students’ accounts. This is a great way to raise money for marching band or get ahead on Winter Guard or Winter Drumline! As a bonus, the student who sells the most Popcornopolis will win a $50 Visa Gift Card!

ASB CARD & TRANSPORTATION — All students need to purchase an ASB card and pay for transportation. When you buy these items together it only cost $120 total ($60 for the ASB card and $60 for transportation). Parents or students can pay for this at the finance office during school hours.
FUNDRIVE EVENT ON SEPTEMBER 9TH — Clean out your closets for a good cause! We’re collecting men’s, women’s, and children’s clothes, shoes, coats, scarves, ties, belts, bedding, comforters, blankets, towels, linens, pillows, and more! Place donated items into 13-gallon kitchen trash bags. All items must be clean and in sellable condition. We’re asking each family to donate a minimum of three (3) bags.
DROP-OFF: Please drop off bags at Gahr High School on Saturday, September 9th from 9AM-2PM.
BONUS: We’ll be raffling off gift cards and will give out prizes to the students who donate the most!
ATHLETIC CLEARANCE — IF YOU HAVEN’T DONE THIS YET, YOU MUST COMPLETE ATHLETIC CLEARANCE ASAP OR YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO GO TO COMPETITIONS. All new and returning students must complete their athletic clearance.
STEP 1: Get a physical exam. You need to bring a print out of Gahr’s Physical Evaluation Form for the doctor to fill out. It is highly recommended to use a walk-in clinic instead of scheduling this with your primary care physician.

TWO GREAT WAYS TO RAISE MONEY — Use the fundraisers below to raise money for your marching band donations! This can also go towards Winter Guard and Indoor Percussion. This is the BEST TIME to do it before we get busy with school starting.
Field Show Program Ads - Earn 90% of the profit from all field show ad sales. The ad prices range from $25 to $175. Many local businesses are looking for ways to advertise to the community. See Mr. Loney to get a past field show program that you can use as an example when selling ads.
Student Sponsorship Letter - 100% of the money sponsorships goes directly to your student account. These take a few hours to complete and mail out, but the return on investment is HUGE if you can make $400-500! This is a great way your family and loved ones can help support.
