WE HAVE A MANDATORY MEETING FOR ALL STUDENTS, PARENTS, AND ALUMNI TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND FROM 6:30-7:30PM IN THE STADIUM. We will be doing a walk-through of how we will be hosting the field show tournament, and then will split into different volunteer areas you signed up for. If you are an upperclassmen or an alumnus interested in hosting a band, please let Mr. Loney know ASAP. If you are a parent or alumni and have not signed up for a shift yet, WE ARE STILL IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e48afa82ea3f8c61-7thannual

ALL DONATIONS ARE DUE TOMORROW 11/2. You can bring donations to Mr. Loney’s office anytime, or on Wednesday evening directly to the stadium when you come for the mandatory meeting. You may also donate cash if that is easier and it will allow us to buy whatever we are missing.

GREAT JOB LAST WEEK!!

A huge thank you to all the parents who attended our last Gahr Invitational Field Show Committee Meeting last Wednesday! We had a busy weekend with our last Home Football Game and Homecoming on Friday and the WBA So Cal Super Show on Saturday!! Congratulations to the Gahr Marching Gladiators on taking 2nd place in Division 4A, along with High Music and High Percussion! Even though the football team won, we still did not qualify for CIF playoffs. This will allow the band to have our scheduled Friday rehearsal from 3:30-6PM. Keep up the great work and continue to hydrate, eat, and be smart about washing hands, sanitizing, and staying healthy in this last part of our marching band season.

EXCHANGE PERFORMANCE THIS THURSDAY 11/3

On Thursday the Gahr Marching Gladiators will be doing a special exchange performance with Viewmont HS from Utah! STUDENTS: Please MAKE SURE YOU GET THE FIELD TRIP FORM FILLED OUT to be excused from periods 0, 1, and 2. We will meet at 7:30AM wearing field show t-shirts and set up in the stadium for a quick rehearsal and performance. Viewmont HS will need to borrow some of our percussion equipment to perform. After both bands perform, we will have donuts and mingle! We’ll clean up during break, and you’ll be back for 3rd period.

SENIOR DINNER CELEBRATION 11/18

Help us celebrate our awesome senior class on Friday, November 18th at 6:30PM at the “Off Street Cafe” located at 11020 Artesia Blvd, Cerritos, CA 90703 (directly across the street from Gahr). Meals for the senior students will be covered by the boosters. Parents and immediate family members are highly encouraged to attend as well, but will need to pay for their dinner, which is priced at $35 per person and is due in advance (this price helps us rent out the restaurant and pay for senior goody bags). You’ll be receiving a separate email with all the dinner options and more information. Thank you!

605 ALL STAR BAND

Welcome to the opportunity of a lifetime…the opportunity to audition for the most amazing band in all the land… the 605 All Star Band!! This massive marching band is going to be a combination of musicians and color guard students from the schools that surround the 605 Freeway! We have included 8 area high schools: Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, Gahr, John Glenn, La Mirada, Mayfair and Norwalk! Our goal is to create an amazing audition video and hopefully be invited to participate in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade! The parade itself is one of the most prestigious events anywhere and will bring memories that will last a lifetime…but just doing the audition with up to 500 musicians and color guard will be iconic!

The audition video recording will take place at Ron Yary Stadium (next to Bellflower HS) on Sunday, December 4th, 2022 from 7:30AM to 4:30PM. The audition process will take place in two phases: parade and field. We will have the students perform “Life is a Highway” for the parade portion of the video and “Johnny B. Goode” for the field portion. We will have over 15 staff members from all the schools assisting on the rehearsal and approximately 4 video people doing cameras and drones. For Color Guard Only: There will be a mandatory rehearsal on Thursday, December 1st at Bellflower HS on their NEW soccer field next to Ron Yary Stadium from 5:00PM to 8:00PM to set the group and teach choreography needed for Saturday.

The cost for each student participating is $35.00. The student will receive music, choreography instruction, a 605 All Star Band t-shirt and lunch on that day. The fee also covers the cost of the music, video production and percussion/color guard coaches.  Again, this is an audition only. We are NOT guaranteed a spot in the parade. Our goal is to put together a massive musical entertainment unit and go through the process. We should know the results by the fall of 2023. Students who participate in this audition who graduate will be able to audition for the group pending the number of musicians needed to fill the group.

MAKE SURE YOU’VE FILLED OUT THE AUDITION FORM TO GET A T-SHIRT AND PARTICIPATE
