NOVEMBER UPDATE!

We’ve got a busy week coming up! The nut fundraiser kicks off today where you can raise money towards your donations. We have an important Parent Meeting on Zoom this Wednesday at 6:30PM. On Thursday, we’re asking all band and color guard families to join us for a Virtual Fundraiser at Lazy Dog where you can support the program by ordering online or dining in person! Finally, we’re resuming our after school wind sectionals as we prepare for our next virtual performance on “Joyful, Joyful.” Please see the full schedule below for the next two weeks that includes new masterclasses the week of November 9th. NUT FUNDRAISER RUNS THROUGH FRIDAY 11/13! 🥜

We're selling premium quality nuts from J&N Products, perfect for holiday gift giving or baking! Students earn $5.00 profit towards your account for each bag sold. Fundraise for 2nd semester donations, or you can use it to raise funds for the possibility of “Indoor Performing Arts.” We accept payments in cash or checks made payable to "Gahr Band Boosters.” DEADLINE: ALL PHYSICAL ORDERS (CASH, CHECKS, FORMS) MUST BE DROPPED OFF TO MR. LONEY ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13TH, BY 6:00PM. Pick-up for nut and cookbook orders is on Saturday, November 21st from 11:00AM-1:00PM at Liberty Park. INTRODUCING INDOOR PERFORMING ARTS! 🎷

Indoor Performing Arts (IPA) is the West Coast's newest performance opportunity! This circuit is run by WGASC/ADLA and will be a possibility for us in addition to the competitions run by CSBC. Please check the band calendar for tentative competition dates.

REOPENING UPDATE 👟

New guidelines for the state of California say that “outdoor singing and band practice are permitted provided that precautions such as physical distancing and mask wearing are implemented to the maximum extent possible.” That means that it may be possible for conditioning for winds, color guard, and percussion to start soon (pending district approval). There are a number of protocols and guidelines that would need to be followed, including temperature checks, screening, social distancing, masking, and only rehearsing outdoors.

Color guard and percussion would most likely be the first in the program to have on campus practices because those students would easily be able to wear masks and social distance the entire time. New research from the University of Minnesota College of Science and Engineering has shown that “no instruments [show] an appreciable influence of flow beyond 30 centimeters (about 1 foot).” However, out of an abundance of caution, there would most likely be additional precautions for wind players such as bell covers or instrument bags, as well as special face masks.

ATHLETIC CLEARANCE 🩺

Please make sure your student has registered through the Family ID website: https://www.familyid.com/gahr-high-school

Once you’re registered, download the “Physical Evaluation” form. Print out the form and take it with you so the physician can complete it during your physical exam.

This is an updated list of walk-in clinics who are currently doing physicals. Call ahead to schedule an appointment, but most of the time you can get in the same day. These are typically around $20, and they usually prefer cash.
