WE HAVE A COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE THIS SUNDAY 9/26 AT THE ARTESIA D.E.S. PORTUGUESE HALL. WE WILL ONLY BE PERFORMING PEP TUNES AND POSSIBLY A SONG FROM THE JAZZ BAND. CONCERT ATTIRE IS THE BLACK “GAHR BAND” POLO SHIRT AND JEANS. NO FRONT ENSEMBLE, BATTERY, OR COLOR GUARD IS NEEDED FOR THIS PERFORMANCE. PLEASE READ BELOW FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Congratulations on a solid performance at Friday’s football game and great improvement at Saturday’s rehearsal! Parents had a busy week as well — A huge thank you to everyone who came to our field show committee meeting on Wednesday, who helped run concessions and pushed props and front ensemble equipment at the game on Friday, and finally who helped with lunch and running the FUNDrive on Saturday!! We had a super successful clothing drive and EXCEEDED our original goal!!! We had a few additional gift cards donated, and are happy to announce the winners of our raffle:

COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE THIS SUNDAY 9/26 — We have a community performance this Sunday, September 26th at the Artesia D.E.S. Portugese Hall! We will only be playing pep tunes and possibly a song from the Jazz Band. Attire is the black “Gahr Band” polo shirt and jeans. If you do not have a polo shirt yet, you can purchase one on the website or bring $25 cash to Mr. Loney. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE YOUR INSTRUMENT AND MUSIC HOME WITH YOU ON FRIDAY AFTER SCHOOL. The Band Room will not be open this weekend because we do not have any rehearsal on Saturday and we’re meeting directly at the Portugese Hall on Sunday. We will have a uhaul available on Friday to load large instrument and the rhythm section.

Call time is 3:00PM at the Artesia D.E.S. Portugese Hall (11903 Ashworth St., Artesia, CA 90701). THERE IS NO TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED FOR THIS EVENT. Make sure you hydrate and eat a big late lunch before you arrive. We will unload, warm up and review, and then set up for the performance. The concert starts at approximately 4:30PM at is set to feature Tetzlaff Middle School, Cerritos High School, Gahr High School, Artesia D.E.S., and Chino D.E.S. PARENTS: Please come support your student! This event is FREE and open to the public. We’ll be done at approximately 6:30PM for students to be picked up.

CONCESSIONS UPDATE — Thank you to everyone who voiced their concerns about the district canceling concessions. This is a huge funding source for the music program and makes it possible to have our instructional staff. We received news on Wednesday that Dr. Mary Sieu reversed risk management’s decision, and we would be allowed again to run concessions for football games and the upcoming Gahr Invitational Field Show Tournament.

UNIFORM UPDATE — We’re planning to have a sewing and uniform party next Tuesday, September 28th from 6:00-8:15PM (during band practice). For the next home game on Friday, October 8th, as well as our first field show competition on Saturday, October 9th, ALL WINDS, FRONT ENSEMBLE, AND BATTERY will need a black sleeveless compression shirt, black compression shorts, and long black socks. This will be worn underneath your marching band uniform. There are example links below, but please note that these items are available as both men’s and women’s. You can also save money by getting a multi-pack or generic brands.

OPTIONAL MAX! EVENT THIS SATURDAY — The Marching Arts Experience is a series of events that provide music education to directors, students, and parents. The 2021 MAX! event will be held on September 25th at Ramona High School in Riverside, California. After the clinics and sessions, there is an exhibition showcase with 17 bands - including the RCC Marching Tigers! This event is OPTIONAL for all students.

ATHLETIC CLEARANCE — Athletic clearance is PAST DUE. All students in the band and color guard must complete this to continue to be eligible to be part of the marching band program. Here are the steps:

STEP 1 - Get a physical exam ASAP. You need to bring a print out of Gahr’s Physical Evaluation Form for the doctor to fill out. It is highly recommend to use a walk-in clinic instead of scheduling this with your primary care physician. If you are still looking for a walk-in clinic, this one is available for $30 cash.

2ND DONATION PAST DUE — The 2nd donation of $125 was due Friday, September 3rd. At this point, your student should owe $250 or less in donations. Checks are made payable to "Gahr Band Boosters." If you are making a cash payment, please get a receipt from Mr. Loney before turning it into the drop box. You can also make a payment online here. We cannot pay our instructional staff or for field show competitions without your donation. ​Please communicate with Mr. Loney if you have any issues with your financial obligation. Thank you.

MARCHING BAND & GUARD ORDER FORM PAST DUE — There are several required items you will need to be in the marching band. Many of these items should be a one-time purchase that can be reused year after year. If you are in the winds or percussion sections, you will need a Gahr Marching Gladiators Hoodie, a Band Polo Shirt, and Black Drillmasters Marching Shoes. If you are in the color guard section, you will need ALL of the items listed on the color guard order form. All order forms & money were due August 10th.
