1. LAST WEEK RECAP — Great improvement this past week and congratulations on a great in-person rehearsal this past Thursday! We would like to congratulate senior percussionist, Jenna Bartholomew, on winning the “Spirit of Gahr” award at Candlerose! This award is presented to a student who displays the highest qualities of personal character, drive, determination and passion, as well as the persistence to overcome any obstacle in their path. Way to go Jenna!! Thank you to everyone who tuned in to watch the ABCUSD “Band-O-Rama” that had performances from every elementary, middle, and high school in the district! 2. SHOWCASE REHEARSAL - TUESDAY 6/1 — We have a mandatory rehearsal this Tuesday from 5-8PM in the stadium. We will be rehearsing and doing a full run-through of our Band & Color Guard Showcase! Eat a good dinner, please arrive early (by 4:30PM) to set up in the stadium, wear a hat, and bring warm clothes and water. Continue practicing today so we can have a great rehearsal and performance!

3. LEADERSHIP APPLICATIONS - DUE THIS WEDNESDAY 6/2 — We’re looking for students who are interested in being a part of our 2021-22 Leadership Team, including the position of section leader! All applications must be completed and physically turned in to Mr. Loney by Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 8PM. Please be prompt and professional with your application. If selected, leadership interviews will take place in the Band Room on Friday, June 4th from 3-6PM. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Loney.

4. NEW STUDENT/PARENT MEETING - WEDNESDAY 6/2 — We have a New Student/Parent Meeting this Wednesday, June 2nd at 6:30PM on Zoom. This is MANDATORY for all incoming woodwind, brass, percussion, and color guard students and parents. Please help spread the word to any 8th graders who are coming to Gahr!

5. BAND & COLOR GUARD SHOWCASE - THURSDAY 6/3 — Our Band & Color Guard Showcase is this Thursday, June 3rd at 6:30PM in the Gahr High School Stadium! We’ll have performances from the band, drumline, front ensemble, and color guard. We’ll also be recognizing our graduating seniors during the concert. All spectators must wear a face mask and social distance. This event is FREE; however, all attendees must RSVP in advance to be admitted into the stadium. Gates open at 6:00PM and the performance begins at 6:30PM. There will be no food or concessions; however, we will have a merchandise table with new pins, stickers, and shirts for sale!
Following the performance, students will be asked to put away their equipment back at the Band Room and to check in school instruments before going home. If you are a freshmen, sophomore, or junior and your instrument is in good condition, you may immediately check your instrument back out by bringing $35 or paying the instrument donation online.
STUDENTS: All students must participate at the in-person rehearsals in order to take part in the showcase performance, including the mandatory rehearsal this Tuesday, June 1st from 5-8PM in the stadium. On the day of the showcase, you will have a normal in-person 7th period rehearsal/run-through from 1-3PM in the stadium, a dinner and HW break, and then report to the Band Room at 5:29PM wearing your blue “Gahr Marching Gladiators” t-shirt and jeans (color guard wears black leggings and black athletic shoes). IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A T-SHIRT OR NEED A NEW ONE, PLEASE BRING $18 TO BUY ONE ON TUESDAY. This is the HOME STRETCH and we are so fortunate to be able to have a REAL PERFORMANCE! Keep practicing, hydrating, and stay on top of your homework.

6. LEADERSHIP INTERVIEWS - FRIDAY 6/4 — Students who are selected from the application process will be given a leadership interview time this Friday, June 4th from 3-6PM. Interviews will take place at the Band Room. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time.

7. AWARDS NIGHT - TUESDAY 6/8 — Our in-person End-of-Year Awards Night is Tuesday, June 8th at 6:30PM at New Life Community Church! This event is free for all students and parents in the band and color guard program.This year we are thrilled to have keynote speaker, Dr. Gregory Whitmore, from California State University, Fullerton! This should be a memorable event to celebrate the students’ outstanding work and achievements this year.
ALL ATTENDEES MUST RSVP IN ADVANCE, INCLUDING STUDENTS. NO WALK-UPS WILL BE ALLOWED. We had a huge demand from the initial RSVPs, and unfortunately due to limited capacity and guidelines, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ALLOW EACH STUDENT TO HAVE A MAXIMUM OF TWO IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS. If you already filled out the RSVP, we ask that you please adjust your guests so that we are able to stay in compliance with the facility and hold the Awards Night. Thank you, and we are so sorry for any inconvenience this causes. We will do our best to live stream on Zoom for anyone who is unable to attend.

8. BAND & COLOR GUARD WORKSHOPS — Our Band & Color Guard Workshops are Tuesday-Thursday, June 15-17 from 5-8PM each day in the Gahr High School Band Room (102)! Workshops are mandatory for all new and returning members and where your student will learn warm ups, receive music for the field show, and reserve their spot in our 2021 production! We will also be placing percussion students in the battery (marching snare, tenors, bass) and front ensemble (mallet instruments, electronics, concert percussion). We’re gearing up for a fantastic year and our return to the competition field. No experience is required, so bring a friend!
